League Night

Posted at 6:02 AM, March 31, 2009 to Online pool

I won my league match tonight 5-3 (it was a race to 5). Play started off well for both of us. I took the first rack leaving 4 of his balls and he returned the favor in the next rack. In the third rack, he scratched early on and I ran eight and out. I won the next couple games, one with the below sequence, to take a 4-1 lead to the hill. Then I caromed in the 8 ball on a wild shot and he pulled off the following rack to get it 4-3. On the eighth rack though, we both started falling apart culminating with him missing the ball completely on a hanger that was deep in the jaws of the corner pocket giving me ball in hand. I was able to pocket my last ball and get decent shape on the 8 for the win.

Week in Review

Not so great showing at the Masters this year. 20th out of 28, 16 points out of a playoff spot. Only 19 points separated 12th-21st though, so it was a tight group in there. The best part was coming up with a crazy jump shot with Chris Woodrum:

League was a little better. I had to play twice since one of the teammates had some gastro-intestinal illness. In my first match, I was playing a straight race to 5. I fell behind 4-1 but somehow rattled off the next four games to win 5-4. In my second match, it was a 5-4 race for me giving up a ball each game. He made some great shots, with some coaching from his teammates and I finally lost 4-1.

League, week ??

Had another night of league play last night. In a straight five race, I ended up winning 5-3. I took a 3-1 lead before he came back to tie it at 3, then I took the next two for the win. Actually, I managed to scratch on the 8 ball to let him tie it at 3, but when I was on the hill, I was down to the 8 ball and he had four balls left and scratched, leaving me ball-in-hand on the 8 ball which he graciously conceded. I had to attempt a couple jump shots along the way, at least making contact once.

Back at Double Hill

Finally had another league match this week after a no-show by the other team and a cancellation due to bad weather. It was a bevy of missed shots by both me and my opponent in a straight race to 5. After alternating racks early, he took a 4-2 lead. Somehow, I managed to reel off the next 3 though for the 5-4 win. Check the diagram for my last little run after he missed the 8 ball in the side pocket. I came up a bit short on the 3 ball, but made the thin cut.
