Bust a cue
Posted at 11:51 PM, July 28, 2008 to Online pool
I tried shooting a few more masse’s today with my backup masse cue. I managed to break the ferrule off one of the shafts while trying a simple jump-masse to get used to the new stick. Luckily, I had brought both shafts so I could continue shooting. I was able to get a couple more on video. The setup shots weren’t going so well, unfortunately. I’ll probably have to simplify them. Here’s one of the masse’s though.
Practicing

Sorry I haven’t posted for a while, but I have been playing and practicing for a bit. First of all, I was busy with the Rack A Shot system, a template that helps set up shots with critical learning points in them. Here’s me in action with the system, and a shot from my girlfriend too! It’s quite a neat tool and I was lucky enough to participate in testing it out.
Also, I just found out there’s a new shot program for the artistic pool tournaments with 120 shots! Most, if not all, of the old 56 shots made it back in, but that’s still quite a number of new shots to learn before the Comet Classic in early September. There are definitely some that are giving me lots of trouble, but with so many shots, there’s also more flexibility in choosing which ones to do. Hopefully I’ll get a good handle on most of them in the next few weeks. In the meantime, I probably won’t be videotaping any new shots for my website.
Rattling

I was trying out some masse’s yesterday when I realized my cue was making a weird sound. I think the weight bolt or something came loose in the butt, so I’ll have to send that back to get it checked out. At least I have a backup cue I can use for masse’s.
Also, I started trying out Rack-a-shot. It’s a pretty nice device that sets up certain shots for you and teaches you about aim lines and tangents. I’ll get a video of it soon.
I started playing around with some new setup shots too with five or six balls. They’ll take a little more practice to perfect, but I’ll get them up here if I ever get them down. I couldn’t film anything, unfortunately, because there was some extracurricular stuff going on in the room while I was playing.
Tubular Jump Draw

Sorry it took so long, but as promised, I have my Tubular Jump Draw shot posted, accessible exclusively through this blog.
This weekend is a big holiday in the USA. Should be fun. I’m going whitewater rafting with some friends. I’ve been only once before, last year, and had a great time. Also, I should start practicing for the Comet Classic coming up in early September. I still don’t know if we’re using the old shot program or not, but it’ll be really interesting if we don’t.
Why I Shoot and Teach Trick Shots
Posted at 5:39 AM, July 2, 2008 to Online pool
I received an email this last weekend that was very touching and wanted to share a couple excerpts from it here:
I am a 61 year old man who loves billiards. My wife is a cancer survivor but rarely leaves the house so anything I do for recreation I generally have to do by myself. I have been playing pool for years and am not a bad player but due to limited practice time will never be a world beater (lol). Finding your web-site was the answer to my prayers. Your tutorial’s are so descriptive I can actually learn to set up the shots properly.
….
Thank you so much for sharing your incredible knowledge of trick shots and making it possible for people like me to have an outlet for true enjoyment and a sense of accomplishment when learning to make some of the shots you have so graciously shared. Best of all, for people like myself who, due to illness, need an outlet that can be performed individually trick shot magic is absolutely perfect.
