Lately

So last week, our league opponents didn’t bother showing up. They must have been afraid of us or something…. League was also canceled this week due to the snow storm. In the meantime though, I got some good practice in for the Masters tournament coming up in a few weeks. I even went to another pool hall to try out my adjustments. There’s definitely going to be some shots I pick based on the tables I end up playing on. The Diamonds last year ran a bit short and had tighter pockets. But before that, it was all Gabriels, which ran long and fast. So we’ll see. Guess I’ll just have to stay sharp on all the shots I might pick.

Exhibition at Harvard

So I just finished a short exhibition at Harvard for one of my friends and his house. It went ok, some of the more technical crowd stuck around for quite a bit afterwards. I had practiced last night for it but some of the shots didn’t translate well for some reason. Just got to make a joke and move on though. I even got to hit some jumps and masses. It was probably my cheapest performance. I did it for dinner and transportation and some baked goods.

League - Week 2

Posted at 7:52 AM, February 17, 2009 to Online pool

I survived a grueling match in league tonight. I won the straight race 5-3 though. There were a lot of good safety battles, shot making, and strong runs, but also some inexplicable misses from both me and my opponent. Good defense tended to prevail though. We handed each other a couple games back and forth. We tended to win games on our own breaks until the last game when I won off his break. It was difficult as we got moved to a different area at the club we play at. The tables we usually play on use red cloth and run very slow. The tables we got put on had green cloth that was practically brand new and ran very fast.

I guess the most memorable shot of the evening was when I tried to jump over his ball obstructing my path to the 8 ball. I used my X-breaker jump/break cue. It got away from me a little bit and I ended up banking the 8 in an uncalled pocket handing him that game and a 3-3 tie in the match. I think I have a tendency of putting a little bit of right spin on the cue ball when I jump, so I’ll have to work on straightening that out.

Shots are up

As I mentioned in a previous post, I got some new shots on video this last week. I was able to get them on my website this weekend. Check them out and rate them:

Pool and Billiards Trick Shot Index

A few of them are pretty easy, but there’s at least one tough one in there for the more advanced shooters.

League again

Posted at 7:08 PM, February 10, 2009 to Online pool

So as I mentioned in my last post, the pool league got re-started at a different venue. I’m on a different team now. Last night I played a straight up race to 5 and won 5-0. It wasn’t as lopsided as it sounds, with both of us missing a couple key balls including 8 balls at crucial times. In the first game, my opponent tried to bank the 8 the length of the table to avoid an imminent scratch if he had tried to cut it. He managed to make the bank but ended up scratching anyways. There were no real key situations that stuck in my mind except for my last shot. He missed the 8 leaving me a tough cut on the 6. I was able to make it and go back and forth across the table for decent shape on the 8 for the win.
